1. 제 목 : Micron and Nanometer-Scale Fluid Mechanics - Physics, Biology and Engineering
2. 연 사 : Professor Kenny Breuer
Division of Engineering, Brown University
3. 일 시 : 2005년 5월 27일(금) 오후 4시 30분 ~ 5시 25분
4. 장 소 : 301동 117호 세미나실
5. 내 용 : We present recent work in the basic science and engineering applications of fluid mechanics at micron and nanometer scales. Two projects from our lab are highlighted. The first project explores the nature of the fluid-solid boundary condition, and the existence of a slip velocity at the nanometer scale. Experiments are presented to measure the nature of the slip velocity and its dependence on shear rate and surface characteristics. The second project concerns the hydrodynamics of swimming bacteria. Here we will present results from experiments and computations on the fundamental mechanisms that flagellated bacteria use to move through water, as well as some engineering applications that employ bacteria as actuators to mix and pump fluid at the micron scale.
