The “3-axis vibration sensor” team consisting of master's students Sang-kyung Lee, Hye-joon Oh, Yong-chae Kim, and Bong-mo Kim from Professor Youn's Laboratory for System Health & Risk Management won the Excellence Award at the "4th POSTECH OIBC Challenge – Solar Power Prediction Competition" co-hosted by Pohang University of Technology (Postech), Open Innovation Big Data Center (OIBC) and H Energy.
The competition was conducted by predicting the amount of photovoltaic power generation in Gwangmyeong City for the next 24 hours in sections by using power generation data from 21 solar power plants scattered across the country and data from three weather stations. The score was determined by considering the error rate between the predicted generation and the actual generation by each team every hour and the penalty according to the section. The final ranking was determined by comprehensively evaluating the cumulative score for 5 days, the creativity of the algorithm used to solve the problem and the presentation.
