PhD student Jun-ha Jung from System Health and Risk Management Lab (Advisor: Prof. Byeng Dong Youn) of Seoul National University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering won the Excellence Award for his paper (“Assessment of Deep Learning-based Journal Bearing Rotation System Utilizing Enhanced Vibration Image: A Study on Efficiency and Accuracy”) presented at Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers (KSME) Conference, recognized for the originality and quality of his research.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Through the research, Jung has developed a technology that enhances the vibration image currently used for assessing deep-learning based rotation systems. In the above paper, he suggests a method that can efficiently produce a vibration image without having to account for phases of vibration signals and abnormal state directions, in addition to developing a deep learning-based assessment technology of improved accuracy. This technology can contribute to safely operating large-scale journal bearing rotation systems such as power plant turbines.
