Unlike conventional diagnostic approaches based on vibration or current sensors, this method can detect condition changes using only operating sounds without installing additional expensive sensors, offering both cost efficiency and ease of installation. The team improved state-recognition accuracy by training acoustic patterns under various operating conditions, including normal operation, load changes, and anomalous signs, demonstrating the potential of an AI-based smart home-tech solution for early fault detection and more efficient maintenance of home appliances. Meanwhile, the KSME–LG Future Home Tech Challenge is a major program of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers (KSME) that aims to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry for the advancement of Korea’s mechanical industry; in partnership with LG Electronics, the competition is designed to discover innovative ideas in future home-tech technologies and explore their potential for industrial application.
