This talk will investigate the stability of a jet diffusion flames in coflow. In the first part we examine the regime from liftoff to blowout using PIV for velocity measurements and CH-PLIF to mark the flame zone. The importance of instantaneous low speed stabilization will be shown. In the second part we will explore flame stability using pulsed plasma sources as an alternative to pilot flames. Results from on-going experiments will be presented and discussed in the context of the first part of the talk.
