5. 내 용 : In many urban environments, the combination of traditional public transportation systems and the use of private automobiles has led to severe problems of congestion, pollution, energy and general degradation of the quality of life. A new approach for mobility in cities is emerging now as an alternative solution, offering convenience, flexibility and much less nuisances: a transportation system, based on small automated vehicles, which complements mass transit and non-motorised transport, providing passenger service for any location at any time. Such systems are called Automatic People Movers (APM) or Personal Rapid Transit (PRT).
In the lecture, several of these vehicles will be described (and also their first tests): the ParkShuttle from Frog, the Serpentine from BSI, the CyCab from Robosoft and the Valse from Yamaha. Key technologies will be presented, that are common to all these systems and which are still under development for trackless PRT, called also Public Urban Road Transport, in order to reduce cost and improve performance.
