5. 내용 :

Nanoparticles possess many special physical, chemical and biological properties. They have found applications in diverse fields, including materials synthesis and processing, dispersions and coatings, fuel cells and sensors, biotechnology and health effects, energy and environment, instruments and probes, and studies of fundamental transfer processes. We have developed several instruments/ techniques for generating and measuring nanoparticles in the size range of 2 nm to 100 nm. They included an electrospray system for producing monodisperse particles from 2 nm to 2 ㎛, a Nanometer Aerosol Differential Mobility Analyzer (Nano-DNA) for measuring size distributions in the 3 to 50 nm range, and a novel aerosol charger for charging nanoparticles. The nanoparticle charger has an extrinsic charging efficiency that is a factor of 10 to 100 better than the available chargers. Recently, we have developed a Nanometer Aerosol Size Analyzer for rapid (30 channels in 6 second-cycle) size distribution measurements from jet engine emissions. These developments will lead to advances towards fundamental understanding of nanoparticle behavior, and practical applications in nanoparticle monitoring and processing.
