An improved method is presented for the iterative condensation of eigenproblems. The method is based on the improved reduction system (IRS) and the succession-level approximate reduction (SAR). The reduction procedures are supplemented with second-order approximation in the series expansion of the system transformation. The reduced equation of motion and the transformation matrix are updated in an iterative manner. In addition, systematic derivation and comparison of the equations involved in various condensations have been sought. It is interesting to note that the method of SAR is closely related with the hybrid dynamic condensation and the subspace iteration method. The orthogonalization through subspace transformation has turned out to be incorporated implicitly. For typical example problems, solutions converge well through iterations. The solution accuracy is very sensitive to the selection of the degrees of freedom, for which the sequential elimination or energy method may be preferred. When a poor selection causes a sudden failure of the iterative method of transformation update, the hybrid dynamic condensation can be employed.
