We are pleased to welcome Professor Lee, Seung Ah as a new faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University, beginning in March 2025. Professor Lee specializes in computational optics and imaging technologies. Her research focuses on designing innovative optical imaging systems—such as microscopes capable of phase imaging and ultra-compact lensless cameras. By integrating them with artificial intelligence, she aims to significantly enhance the performance and efficiency of conventional optical systems.
These cutting-edge technologies are being applied across a wide range of domains, including biomedical and life sciences, smart homes, robotics, and automotive systems, advancing intelligent sensing capabilities in diverse environments.
At SNU, Professor Lee leads the Imaging Intelligence Lab, which is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of traditional optical systems and developing next-generation imaging methodologies through the integration of optics and AI.
Professor Lee received her B.S. (2007) and M.S. (2009) in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University, and her Ph.D. (2014) in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). She went on to conduct postdoctoral and research work at Stanford University, Google X, and Verily Life Sciences, where she contributed to the development of advanced medical imaging technologies. From 2018 to 2025, she served as Assistant and then Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Yonsei University, earning recognition for her research excellence, educational contributions, and leadership in industry-academic collaborative projects.
Currently, Professor Lee serves as an Associate Editor for Optics Express and Advanced Imaging, and she is actively involved in international academic communities as a program chair and invited speaker at major conferences.
