Professor Park, Frank Chongwoo from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University, along with LG Electronics President Joo-Wan Cho and 46 others, has been selected as a 2025 regular member of the Korean Academy of Engineering (KAE), often referred to as the "Hall of Fame for Science and Engineering Leaders." The KAE announced on the 26th the list of 48 newly admitted regular members and 69 general members for 2025. Among the regular members, 23 are from academia, including Professor Park, and 25 are from the industry, including President Cho.
The KAE selects its members through a 10-month, four-stage review process, considering experts who have contributed to national development through technological innovation and talent cultivation. Regular membership is limited to 300 individuals at any given time, with a five-year term. General members serve a three-year term, with a total membership of 400 individuals. Unlike general members, who are nominated and approved by the KAE Board of Directors, regular members must pass an academy-wide vote.
Professor Park is a distinguished scholar who pioneered the application of differential geometry and mathematical sciences to robotic optimization algorithms. He also founded Sage, an AI startup specializing in secondary battery inspection. Meanwhile, President Cho was recognized for his contributions to the growth and competitiveness of the domestic electronics industry through continuous research and development.
A total of 69 general members from academia and industry were also selected.
