SNU Department of Mechanical Engineering Hosts Successful Christmas Lecture

On December 27, Professor Park, Frank Chongwoo of Department of Mechanical Engineering delivered a Christmas lecture titled “Can AI Save Robotics?” at Room 105 of Building 301. The event was held in a hybrid format, both online and offline.
Professor Park, Frank Chongwoo explained that while public expectations have grown due to recent videos showcasing robots performing various tasks, including household chores, real-world robots still struggle with basic operations. He discussed the impact of advancements in AI technologies, particularly large scale AI models like ChatGPT, on robotics and highlighted the growing anticipation for achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). He also addressed challenges encountered during the development of foundational AI models for robotics and explored strategies for effectively applying AI models to real-world robots.
Professor Park emphasized the potential for creating practical robots through the convergence of AI and robotics technologies, underscoring the importance of ongoing research and innovation. Through this lecture, the audience gained a deeper understanding of the direction of development of AI and robot technology, and expressed their feelings that it was a time to gain new perspectives
