Professor Lim, Jongwoo, who was appointed as a Full Professor in our department in September 2023, received his Bachelor's degree in Computational Statistics and Computer Science from Seoul National University in 1997, and his Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2003 and 2005, respectively. After obtaining his degrees, he worked as a Senior Scientist at Honda Research Institute USA in Silicon Valley until February 2011, and then as a Software Engineer in Google's Street View team. He joined the Department of Computer Software at Hanyang University in March 2012, where he worked until August 2023.

His main research field to date has been image-based object tracking and 3D recognition technology in computer vision. In recognition of his significant contributions over ten years, he received the Longuet-Higgins Prize from IEEE/CVF in 2023 for his Visual Tracker Benchmark paper presented at CVPR 2013. At the Robot Vision Lab in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University, he aims to research foundational computer vision recognition technologies and robot path planning and control technologies. His work will focus on robustly and quickly recognizing 3D spatial information and surrounding objects from various images, enabling real-time situational awareness for robots and autonomous vehicles. This will help ensure safe and efficient operation in complex spaces and crowded environments.
