Professor Yoon Byung-dong's research team, consisting of doctoral students Kim Yong-chae and Lee Sang-kyung, along with master's students Kim Bong-mo and Kim Min-jeong, from the Laboratory for System Health & Risk Management, formed the '97Hz' team,
and the 'KEEE' team, consisting of doctoral student Seongjong Kim and master's students Jiwon Lee and Minjae Kim, won the Grand Prize and Excellence Award at the FACTORYHACK KOREA 2024 held on January 30, 2024.
This competition was an industrial AI hackathon to solve problems in the manufacturing field with leading domestic AI companies. It was hosted by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and sponsored by the Korea Institute of Electronic Technology.
The competition problem involved predicting the wear of CNC milling machines based on real industrial data and suggesting optimal cutting conditions considering productivity and quality. The 97Hz and KEEE teams won the Grand Prize and Excellence Award, respectively, for presenting topics on 'AI-based prediction technology for CNC milling machine wear considering uncertainty in industrial data and suggesting optimal cutting conditions' and 'Developing techniques for improving prediction performance of tool wear considering measurement errors and predicting replacement timing.' Both teams utilized artificial intelligence to propose optimal solutions to solve industrial problems and achieved remarkable results.
