Metaverse event for undergraduate students

On the afternoon of the 27th of last month, the 'Metaverse Job Fair' held by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Seoul National University was attended by up to 190 people including undergraduate and graduate students. As the characters created by each visitor gatherede bye in a large auditorium implemented as a metaverse, video lectures by professors began. Professor Byoungho Lee, dean of the College of Engineering, who accessed the event, said, "I congratulate you for having the job fairline.

Outside the auditorium, there was a space where the laboratory of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and promotional booths of companies were prepared.

Six companies and 29 laboratories including Samsung Electronics, POSCO, OnePredict, Hyundai Wia, Seoul Robotics, and Dr. Noah participated in this event. Here, it was easy to see the job posting website and promotional video connected to each booth, and it was also noticeable that the participants had free video conversations with the PR manager.

As non-face-to-face campus life is prolonged, campus events using the metaverse are established as a new university culture. Students are responding that it is useful because they can have fun and interact with their seniors and juniors, classmates, and professors through a metaverse space such as a game.
Professor Sung-Hoon Ahn, Dean of Department of Mechanical Engineering, said, "Since we were unable to hold a job fair due to COVID-19, for the first time in a metaverse environment, we prepared an opportunity to inform students inside and outside of school and corporate researchers about what we are doing in our laboratory and have a video conversation." It is an event that connects internal and external undergraduate students to graduate school admissions, lab internships, and industry-university joint research, and provided an opportunity to meet with corporate managers.”
