In addition, the agency welcomed its Policy Development Staff, which will function as a think tank. The Policy Development Staff consists of experts in policy, business, and technology, developing strategic businesses in Hwaseong-si and establish development plans as well as policies.
The Policy Development Staff consists of three sub-departments: future mobility/energy, ICT/AI, and bio/environment. From now, they plan hosting forums in order to discuss main agendas, propose development plans for each industry field, and seek out ways to connect with future projects, helping out businesses in the region.
With Prof. Jun-seok Park of Kookmin University as the Director, the Staff has around 30 members including Prof. Seoktae Kang (KAIST), Prof. Keuktae Kang (Suwon University), Prof. Joonha Kim (GIST), Prof. Byeng Dong Youn (SNU), and Prof. Sangwon Lee (Yonsei University). According to their analysis, Hwaseong-si has advantage in future automobiles, bio, and semiconductor industries, all of which have been selected as ‘BIG 3’ industries by the government.
The region already has value chains and systems set up between businesses including the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute, with the best environment for automobile and semiconductor industries to grow. It is also where Hyangnam Pharmaceutical Industries Complex is located, giving it competitive advantage in terms of cultivating new pharmaceutical and bio industries. Combined, the region contains much potential for innovative growth.
