Prof. Byeng Dong Youn’s OnePredict Selected as ’10 Machine Technologies of the Year’
Celebrating the ‘Day of Machinery’ on November 6th, ’10 Machine Technologies of the Year’ and ‘Machine Engineer of the Year’ were chosen by the Korean Association of Machinery Industry, the Korean Federation of Mechanical Engineering Societies, Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Korea Aerospace Research Institute, and Korea Railroad Research Institute. A total of 10 machine technologies were awarded at the ‘2019 Day of Machinery’ commemoration on November 6th, including ‘AI-based prognostics system’ developed by SNU Professor Byeng Dong Youn’s OnePredict Inc.
‘Day of Machinery’ is an event bringing together machinery industry professionals in industry, academia, and research. This year marks the 18th celebration of this Day.
’10 Machine Technologies of the Year’ is a category founded in 2013 to award and promote excellent machine technologies or products created in Korea.
10 Machine Technologies of the Year in 2019 were as follows: ▲AI-based prognostics system (OnePredict) ▲Technology that extends tool life over fivefold using liquid nitrogen of -196℃ (Korea Institute of Industrial Technology) ▲Domestically produced turbine blades in gas turbines (Jinyoung TBX) ▲Designing and manufacturing of composite grid structure from high strength carbon fiber (Hankuk Fiber) ▲Air conditioner with optimized life cycle using big data-based AI technology (LG Electronics) ▲K-FLEX, versatile endoscopic surgery robot (KAIST EasyEndo Surgical) ▲Hydrogen-free DLC coating technology for low friction and high abrasion resistance (Korea Institute of Materials Science) ▲DCV300, domestically produced main control valve for mid-size excavators (Doosan Infracore) ▲ Active steering bogie technology for urban rail, reducing abrasion, dust, and noise (Korea Railroad Research Institute) ▲World’s first oceanic sailing 114K oil tanker with LNG vessel propulsion technology (Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries).
“We used industrial AI technology, utilizing our domain knowledge in mechanical engineering,” explained Prof. Youn. His team has won 9 times in the last 5 years at various data challenges held by IEEE and other organizations.
“Industrial data is increasing in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The annual economic effect is expected to be over 50 trillion won due to improvements in machinery availability, manufacturing quality, industrial safety, and productivity.”
