The research, titled “Multiple Resonant Modes of a Phononic Crystal with Defects for Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting,” presented a mathematical analysis of the phenomenon in which when phononic crystals with phononic band gap are affected with multiple defects, the single defect band is split. In order to gain a deeper understanding of multiple resonant modes, the research examined the splitting of defect bands in accordance with the distance between and direction of defects, and analyzed the effect of this phenomenon on piezoelectric energy harvesting. Resolving the problem of narrowband characteristics of the currently used single defect-based energy localization, it suggested a new method of piezoelectric energy harvesting using multiple resonant modes of phononic crystals.
