Prof. Yun Seog Lee received his B.S. degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Seoul National University in 2006, M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 2007, and Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2013. From 2013 to 2014, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity at MIT. From 2014 to 2017, he worked as a research staff member at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, where he received the IBM Invention Plateau Award (2015-2017) and the IBM Research Outstanding Accomplishment Award (2016). He joined the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Seoul National University as an assistant processor in September 2017.

His current research interests are novel materials and manufacturing processes for next-generation semiconductor and energy devices. To improve the performance of cognitive computing systems based on deep learning, he is developing neuromorphic (brain-like) computing devices. His research interests also include various high-performance energy devices such as thin-film solar cells and solid-state batteries based on novel compound semiconductor materials and innovative micro- and nano-scale manufacturing technologies. The goal of the research is to develop a platform for various cognitive computing devices such as Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable devices.
