The world's best 'soft robot research center' opens

Soft Robotics Research Center Center (SRRC: Center Director: Professor Cho Kyu-jin Seoul National University) was founded to develop next-generation software robot technology by discovering various source technologies of soft robot. It was held at the lobby on the first floor of the Precision Machinery Design Research Center at Seoul National University.

About 80 people attended the event, including Professor Kun-woo Lee, professor/ Mechanical engineering, Seoul National University, Korea Research Foundation, Park Jung-gon, head of Angel Investment Corporation, Kim Kyung-hoon, Korea Intelligent Robot PD.

"The Soft Robot Technology Research Center was established as a support project of the leading research center hosted by the Ministry of the Future and is an important starting point for Korea to pioneer in the field of soft robot. I think there is a bit of a flaw in the robot, but I think I can make a statement in the field of soft robots. " "I would like to see how many start-ups there are at the end of this center, or how many of them have been completed," Lee said.

According to the congratulatory message from the Korea Research Foundation, Park Jung-gon said, "Today, the human-centered soft robot technology research group, which is being launched today, will rapidly grow based on the development of fast technology. We are aiming to prevail in the world of wearable robots market and original technology. " Park said, "We expect to be able to secure global competitiveness in a variety of soft robot related technologies in extreme environments that are difficult to compete with the existing robot technology through the launch of the center." In addition, the Korea Research Foundation (ERC) We will provide the best research support to achieve successful research results."

On the occasion of the conclusion of the congratulatory speech, an event was held in which Jin-Hyun Kim , the head of the Basic Research Promotion Division of the Creation Science Department.

Subsequently, Kyu-Jin Cho, chairman of the Center, took time to introduce the Human-Centered Soft Robot Technology Research Center (SRRC). "It has not been less than 10 years since the development of soft robot technology," said Cho. He says that soft robots can be applied to all areas, and that soft robot is a paradigm, not just technology. If the robots so far have been made of solid materials, it is expected that flexible materials are to be utilized in the future.

In the future where people are more connected to devices, soft robot technology will become an integral part in people’s lives. The first keyword to think about when creating a soft robot center is human beings. Therefore, the focus on developing robot technology is to complement human beings. Chief Cho said that Korea has pioneered in launching the  Soft Robot Technology Research Center and vowed to work hard to become a well renowned center in the future.

Photographs, photos, and lab tours followed up. At the institute tour event, more than 20 different soft robots developed by the center so far were exhibited and demonstrated.

On the other hand, the supporting research center has supported a total of 104 laboratories since 1990, and currently there are 24 ERC laboratories including the Soft Robot Technology Research Center in 2016. In particular, 33 projects were submitted to the new competition for the 2016 Advanced Research Center and 7 projects were selected. The Human-Centered Soft Robot Technology Research Group will be awarded 12.5 billion won over the next seven years.
