Ph.D. Student Jung Ho Park of the SNU Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering System Health and Risk Management lab (Guidance Professor Byeng Dong Youn) has been recognized for his research excellence and originality, being award the Excellent Student Paper Award in the 2016 KSME Conference with the research titled “Development of vibration based fault diagnostics of planetary gears in abnormal operating conditions.”<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Existing fault diagnostics for planetary gears are largely based on stationary conditions. In the above paper, Ph.D. Student Jung Ho Park utilized wavelet transforms and gaussian processes to develop a new type of fault diagnostics for planetary gears in non-stationary conditions. The developed technique can be utilized in the status monitoring of various products that contain planetary gears such as wind turbines, helicopters, excavators and others.
