[Kuki News] Prof. Byeng Dong Youn: LG U+ Expands AI-based Predictive Maintenance Service… Fault Prognosis of Facilities

LG Uplus will expand their ‘AI-based predictive maintenance’ service, which diagnoses in advance the faults and malfunctions of industrial facilities using AI—a move to improve their competitiveness in smart factory.
In smart factory, AI is most widely used in ‘predictive maintenance.’ Technological advancements such as 5G, IoT, and big data have in turn accelerated the establishment of smart factories. In accordance, the industry’s interest has been increasing in predictive maintenance technology that can improve efficiency in managing facilities.
LG Uplus, in order to improve the quality of their predictive maintenance service, has joined hands with industrial AI solution company ‘OnePredict.’ They signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Yongsan office February 17th, agreeing to expand the provision of predictive maintenance service.
OnePredict’s solution performs diagnosis using AI-based analyses of industrial data such as vibrations and noises coming from industrial facilities, and predicts when it will malfunction and how long its remaining life is. This solution can be used in the predictive maintenance of a variety of facilities including bearings, reducers, pumps, fans, blowers, compressors, and turbines.
LG Uplus in cooperation with OnePredict plans to offer their predictive maintenance service to multiple driving machines, expanding from a selection of facilities like motors. They are incorporating the AI predictive maintenance solution to the 5G network and the integrated management platform, making it applicable to multiple industries.
Previously, both companies have successfully carried out the ‘public sector initiative of Mobile Edge Computing (MEC)-based 5G integrated service’ project, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency (NIA). Currently, they are also supplying predictive maintenance service to SMEs in the Ulsan Industrial Complex, using the vibration data from pumps and motor bearings to prognose faults.
Jae-yong Seo, director of the smart infrastructure project at UPlus, said: “Predictive maintenance is an essential service in smart factories. By providing accurate analyses and prognoses via AI-based analyses of big data from facilities, we hope to cut maintenance costs and improve the stability of facilities for our clients.”
