He has been involved in education and research on refrigeration system and control and published 89 articles on government and private entrusted research projects including 20 hp class low-temperature response VRF heat pump system Intergration. In 2016, he was selected as the '70th Doctor of Seoul National University of Engineering' who shines Korea.

Professor Min Soo Kim has been awarded the Presidential Commendation for his contribution to the academic promotion and international status improvement of the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector through the international refrigeration organization activity while nurturing the excellent manpower in education and research in the domestic thermal engineering and refrigeration engineering field.

37 domestic and foreign patent registered, application and development technology gets recognized

During his 22-year tenure, Prof. Min Soo Kim has raised the level of education in mechanical engineering and applied sciences. He has trained 25 doctors and 57 masters in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning. Cultivated manpower plays a key role in the fields of industry, academia, industry, and government, and contributes greatly to the growth and development of the refrigeration and air conditioning sector.

Professor Kim has also contributed to the promotion of the refrigeration and air conditioning sector through active research activities. In addition to publishing 127 papers in international journals, 345 papers were presented to domestic and international academic conferences, and 37 patents were registered and filed.

In addition, Professor Kim has contributed to the improvement of efficiency and improvement of the performance of refrigeration and heat pump system. It has useful researches in academic and industrial fields, such as quantifying the physical properties and heat transfer characteristics of refrigerant, and providing the basic data necessary for system design to enable efficient operation of the system by studying operation devices for improving the performance of the fuel cell system.

Professor Kim has been leading the international air conditioning industry in Korea through IIR activities.

He is the representative member of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), a member of 62 countries all over the world, and serves as the executive committee and vice chairman of the International Refrigeration Organization Headquarters and plays a major role in raising the international status of Korea's refrigeration and air conditioning industry.

He is also a member of the International Council of Refrigeration and Research Journal, the editor of the International Refrigeration and Harmonization Journal, the editor of the International Journal of Automotive Engineering, the 11th International Conference on Heat Transfer, The Secretary General of the 3rd Asian Conference on Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and the Chairman of the 5th Conference on Refrigerant Thermoelectricity and Transmission Conference.

Professor Kim has made efforts not only to nurture professional manpower and academic activities, but also to promote exchanges between industry and academia in the field of air-conditioning.

He was the first secretary of the Korea Machinery Association. He also participated in the first machinery and equipment event. He also worked as editor of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers to promote academic activities in the field of machinery. He played a key role in revitalizing the field of refrigeration and air-conditioning. He also participated in the standardization work on the refrigeration and air conditioning sector as Chairman of the ISO / TC86 Technical Committee. He was also a member of the R&D Innovation Committee of the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. He was also the chairman of the Mission Innovation Growth Engine Task Force.

Efforts to promote exchanges between industry and academia

Professor Min Soo Kim leads the 'Refrigeration System and Control Laboratory' in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University and conducts various researches on research and eco-friendly refrigeration system for system performance enhancement and optimal control.

Currently, a research on the vapor injection heat pump system to improve the heating performance during the winter heat pump operation is being carried out. This research on the performance improvement of the heat pump absorbs heat in the industrial low temperature heat source and produce the industrial steam as well as investigates the optimal operation and fault detection.

In addition, researches on refrigerant charge detection and fault diagnosis using sensor information installed in a home heat pump, studies to prevent system performance degradation due to frost damage and cumulative freezing due to failure during winter season, distribution of refrigerator oil in system and  improvement in the performance of the oil separator is being conducted.

In order to implement the hydrogen fluoride and HFC refrigerant regulation, which is becoming a global issue in recent years, an improve the performance and optimum performance of refrigeration system using natural refrigerant with low global warming effect such as carbon dioxide and isobutane was made.

Professor Min Soo Kim said, "We will continue to pursue future-oriented researches such as improvement of performance of refrigeration and heat pump system, fault detection, optimal control using artificial intelligence, and eco-friendly refrigeration system. I am pleased and once again I am very grateful.
