Ph.D. student Heonjun Yoon of Professor Byeng Dong Youn’s System Health and Risk Management Lab has claimed the Best Paper Award in The 7th World Congress on Biomimetics, Artificial Muscles and Nano-Bio (BAMN 2013) held in Grand Hotel, Jeju Island from the 26th(Mon) to 30th(Fri) of August 2013 with the paper titled “Stochastic Analysis of Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting under Non-stationary Random Vibrations”.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Masters student Chulmin Cho and Professor Byeng Dong Youn participated in the above paper as co-authors and corresponding authors. The paper was commended on the first every approach of predicting the average energy harvested by a Piezoelectric energy harvester in a non-stationary random vibrations condition through the use of statistical time-frequency analysis of the electromechanical model.

Additionally, Ph.D. student Heonjun Yoon presented the mathematical analytic model based on Kirchoff’s Plate theory to identify the electrical-mechanical movement of the segmentation designed energy harvesting skin as a thesis for SNU Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering which claimed the Excellent Paper Award in the CAE an Applied Mechanics Category of the 2013 KSME Spring Conference held in BEXCO, Busan from the 23rd to 25th of May 2013.

The above paper was commended on the suggestion of a theoretical and systematic approach to partitioned design and prediction of transferrable electricity based on the inflection line of a dynamic strain distribution calculated through a Levy methodology to prevent the voltage cancellation effect which occurs when both tension and pressure are applied to a piezoelectric material.
