National CRI Center for Nano-Particle Control (CNPC)
- The National Creative Research Initiative (CRI) Center for Nano-Particle Control was established in December 1997, through a grant from the Korean Ministry of Science and Technology. The Center aims to make breakthroughs in nano-particle research, particularly heat and flow control techniques to control size, morphology, concentration, phase, and composition of nanometersized single component or composite particles as well as nanoparticle patterning techniques. Current research activities include understanding the fundamentals of the growth of nano-aggregate particles in flames, modeling of particle growth in thermal flows, establishing novel control and measurement techniques, novel patterning methods of nanoparticles utilizing the particle motion and trajectory control, novel flame and laser ablation methods.

Center for Turbulence and Fulid Control Research
- The National Creative Research Initiative (CRI) Center for Turbulence and Flow Control Research (TFC) was established in 1997 by the support from the Korean Ministry of Science and Technology. The primary objective of the TFC is to develop new turbulence control concepts based on physical reasoning, control theory, and biomimetic approaches for drag reduction, mixing enhancement, and flow-induced noise reduction. To achieve this objective, studies on turbulent flows and their control are being conducted at the TFC by highly accurate numerical simulations (direct and large eddy simulations) and laboratory experiments. Particular emphasis is placed on optimal shape design, boundary layer control, bluff body control, separation control, mixing control, turublence physics, CFD tool development, and sensor/actuator manufacturing.
