1. 제 목 : Development and Application of Multifunctional Polymer Nanocomposites
2. 연 사 : Allan S. Crasto
Distinguished Research Materials Scientist
Head, Nonmetallic Materials Division
University of Dayton Research Institute
3. 일 시 : 2005년 10월 10일(월) 오전 10시 30분 ~ 11시 30분
4. 장 소 : 301동 1512호 세미나실
5. 내 용 : Nanostructured materials currently of commercial interest for polymer nanocomposites include vapor-grown, multi-walled carbon nanofibers, graphite flake, graphitic foams and layered silicates. Resin systems under investigation – primarily for aerospace applications – include epoxies and imide-based resins. This presentation will discuss recent successes related to: the treatment of these nanostructured materials to improve their dispersion in, and adhesion to the host polymer; dispersion of the nanomaterials in polymers to achieve uniform distribution at the nanoscale; development and scale-up of PNC formulations from batch sizes of 100 g to 100 lbs; tools and methods used to characterize these materials at the nanoscale, and the fabrication, testing and evaluation of conventional composites with PNC matrices. In addition the importance of partnering with key members of the technology value chain will be emphasized, to facilitate the smooth transition of this technology into commercial applications. This chain includes researchers, material suppliers, compounders, prepreggers, parts fabricators, and end users. This research, development and transition effort is supported by grants from the State of Ohio, while a variety of applications of these materials are being explored collaboratively with a host of industrial and academic partners.
