4. 내 용 : Collaborative product development has emerged as an effective means for companies to remain competitive in the global market. Close collaborations with customers, suppliers, and other business partners become essential to meet time-to-market and reduce product development costs. One critical issue is to properly resolve design specifications at the early stage. In most Web-based collaborative design systems, product model is shared in the mesh representation during the collaboration process. This representation supports most 3D visualization effects but fails to retain design or manufacturing related attributes. Moreover, those systems do not distinguish the individual needs of each participant on product information or support complex collaboration scenarios in real industrial settings. Thus, collaborative design is still an ineffective and error-prone process. This talk introduces a novel representation scheme for 3D product model in the Web-based collaborative design environment. The idea is to encapsulate design information in the representation with multiple levels of detail (LOD), both semantically and graphically, corresponding to individual requirements and/or limitations. This is realized through integration of 2D mesh model and form features of 3D CAD. A “switch” is used to control the display of each feature in meshes. A new STL-based data structure and the related algorithms are proposed for implementing this multi-LOD concept. Finally, a real example of collaborative mold design illustrates the feasibility of the scheme. It also demonstrates that such a product model improves the security, traffic flow, and efficiency of the information sharing in collaborative design.
