A typical engineering surface consists a different range of spatial frequency. To analyze surface texture appropriately, these different wavelength components should be separated reasonably by utilizing filters. In general, the Fourier transform can be adopted to separate the different wavelength component. In the case of multi-scale texture, the Fourier transform cannot separate correctly the different wavelength components. The subject of this work is application the wavelets transform to analyze multi-scale aspect of engineering surface. The multi-scale components can be separated reasonably utilizing wavelets, which is time-scale varied function.
