5. 내 용 :

Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) are expected to be a useful candidate for active/passive materials of smart structural systems. However, their thermomechanical/dynamic behavior typically shown by large bounding and inner hysteresis loops has not been well understood yet. I will talk about our lumped-parameter energy-based model of pseudoelasticity and shape memory effect which we proposed by introducing a general function of dissipation potential for phase transformations and rearrangements, called the phase interaction energy function (PIEF).

I also talk about an ongoing joint research on smart composites embedded with SMA fibers. Since 1998, at laboratories of four Japanese universities we have carried out the five-year international R&D project on Smart Composite Structural Systems sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (formerly, MITI). At Nagoya University a joint research group from my laboratory and EADS (formerly, DaimlerChrysler) has focused on R&D of smart composites embedded with SMA fibers.
