Several heat transfer enhancement technologies have been developed at KIST for the performance improvement of thermal systems, such as heat exchangers and air conditioning systems. Convection heat transfer is substantially increased using aluminum foam materials for the air side of plate-fin heat exchangers. Porous fin correlations for the plate-fin heat exchangers are obtained and compared with the conventional louvered fins. Hydrophilic surface modification technology is applied to enhance condensation and evaporation for the absorption chillers and air conditioners. Heat transfer from the heated blocks is also increased using flow resonance, which apply to the effective cooling of electronic chip.
