1. 제 목 : Modular reconfigurable robotics
2. 연 사 : Mark Yim
3. 일 시 : 2000년 1월18일 오후 2:00 - 3:30
4. 장 소 : 301동 1512호
5. 내 용 :
Robots made up of many simple modules hold the promise of being very versatile, robust and inexpensive. While the modules cannot do much individually, many modules attached together can accomplish much more complicated task while also having the ability to rearrange the modules themselves to achieve a large variety of tasks. We have developed a system called PolyBot and demonstrated the over 10 types of locomotion including locomotion like a snake, caterpillar, spider, rolling track and multi-legged creatures.
6. 연사 약력 :
Mark Yim has been a researcher at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) since 1996. Currently, he leads a project building a modular, reconfigurable robot system. His work on MEMS and robotics has been featured in the New York Times, MSNBC, ABC and CBS News, USA Today, BBC news, and various other local and international news media. He has published in respected journals and conferences in the areas of mobile robot planning, distributed robotics, optimal control, MEMS, and haptic devices. He has authored over 20 patents. He has been chosen as one of the TR100, the top 100 young innovators by Technology Review Magazine. Yim received his PhD in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 1994.
