Professor Frank Chongwoo Park from Seoul National University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, along with 47 others, including LG Electronics President Cho Joo-wan, has been selected as a 2025 regular member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK). NAEK is an honorary hall of fame for leaders in science and engineering. On the 26th, NAEK announced a list of 48 new regular members and 69 general members for 2025. Among the regular members, 23 were from academia, including Professor Park, while 25 were from industry, including President Cho.

NAEK members are selected through a four-stage evaluation process over ten months, recognizing experts who have contributed to national development through innovation and talent cultivation. Regular membership is limited to 300 members with a five-year term, while general membership is capped at 400 with a three-year term. Unlike general members, who are selected through recommendations and board approvals, regular members must also pass a written vote by all existing members.

Professor Park is a distinguished scholar known for applying differential geometry and mathematics to develop optimization algorithms for robotics. He also founded the AI startup ‘SAIGE,’ specializing in battery inspection. President Cho was recognized for his contributions to the growth and competitiveness of Korea’s electronics industry through continuous R&D. Other notable selections include Sangok Seok, CEO of Naver Labs, who led the Saudi Arabia smart city platform project using digital twin technology, and Changhee Lee, head of Samsung Display Research Institute, who pioneered cadmium-free quantum dot LEDs and contributed to next-generation display technology and international standardization.

Sixty-nine general members were selected from industry and academia.
