Professor Oh, Joo Hwan was appointed as an associate professor in our department in March 2024, specializing in the field of solid mechanics within mechanical engineering. His main research focus is on achieving characteristics that were previously impossible or difficult to realize by precisely designing artificial microstructures. He actively applies these unique characteristics in areas such as elastic ultrasonics, nonlinear solid mechanics, and vibrations. At the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University, through the 'Metastructure Lab.', he aims to expand his research to include not only advanced solid mechanics but also multiphysics systems incorporating various physical phenomena and new structural design techniques based on technologies such as AI.

Professor Oh, Joo Hwan entered the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University in 2004, obtaining his bachelor's degree in 2008. He continued to pursue an integrated master's and doctoral program in mechanical engineering at Seoul National University, earning his Ph.D. in 2014. From 2014 to 2016, he worked as a research assistant professor at the Institute of Advanced Machinery and Design at Seoul National University, and during 2016, he also served as a postdoctoral researcher at CNRS in France. In 2016, he was appointed as a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), where he served as an assistant and associate professor until 2024. He has received various awards, including the Samsung HumanTech Gold Prize, the Young Researcher Award from the Institute of Advanced Machinery and Design at Seoul National University, and the UNIST Outstanding Faculty Award. He is actively involved in numerous domestic and international seminars and invited lectures related to his research field.
