The paper “Elastic hoops jumping water” (co-authors: Hanbi Jeong, Ji-sung Park, Eun-jin Yang, Yoon-seok Jeong, Juliette Amauger, and Hoyoung Kim), published by Professor Hoyoung Kim’s research team in the October 2023 issue of the international journal Physical Review Fluids, was published by the American Physical Society. It was selected as the most notable paper among the pairs, and the research was presented online to members of the American Physical Society around the world through the Journal Club program.

This paper investigates the principle of living organisms jumping using drag rather than the surface tension of water, through the phenomenon of a compressed elastic ring being released and vibrating, pushing the surface of the water and jumping.
