The “Semiconductor Carrying” team consisting of master’s program students Chaehyun Suh, Dowan Kim, and Hyeonchan Lee belonging to the Laboratory for System Health & Risk Management of Professor Byeng Dong Youn of Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, which is the highest award in the 2021 Industry-University Project Challenge hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and supervised by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology.

This competition is an event where talented people with master's and doctoral degrees in engineering can solve technical difficulties in the industrial field together with companies and share their achievements. A total of 301 teams of 666 people participated in 33 industries including semiconductors, shipbuilding, automobiles, secondary batteries, artificial intelligence, and robots. In the preliminaries held between August and September, a total of 66 teams were selected and participated in the finals. In both the preliminaries and the finals, 'Excellent Case Report' containing detailed progress and achievements of the industry-university project was submitted and the representatives were selected as industry-academic experts presented in front of the composed judges. The Seoul National University semiconductor delivery team, which conducted the “Deep Learning-based Anomaly Detection Algorithm Development Project” with Samsung Electronics, was ranked in the final ranking by focusing whether the technology had been resolved in the course of collaboration with companies.

Regarding this award, Professor Byeng Dong Youn added, “It is a good example of solving technical difficulties related to unlabeled data, complex industrial data distribution, and interpretable AI in order to apply industrial AI to real industrial sites.”
