Seoul National University College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced that at 3pm of March18 in the lobby of the New Engineering Building 301, the opening ceremony of the “Heui Jae Pahk Creative Space” was held and started operating to support undergraduate and graduate College of Engineering student startups.

Professor Heui Jae Pahk of the College of Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering  founded SNU Precision Co., Ltd., the first laboratory venture company at the Seoul National University College of Engineering that was founded in February 1998 with many graduate students during the IMF national economic crisis, and ranked first in the global market in the field of display and semiconductor inspection equipment, announcing to the world the majesty of a laboratory company at the College of Engineering at Seoul National University.

After successfully listing SNU Precision the KOSDAQ market in January 2005, Professor Pahk donated 100,000 shares of privately-sowned stock (approximately 8 billion won) to the SNU College of Engineering to use it for research funds and scholarships. It is the greatest demonstration of a start-up company that began its journey at a university to now have contributed to the national economy, donating to universities, and fulfilled its social responsibilities through technology reserves.

In this regard, the College of Engineering commemorated Professor Heui Jae Pahk's will and passion for technological preservation, and in hopes that his research results at the university would lead to entrepreneurship and industry-academia cooperation, challenging the global market and contribute to the national economy and society, the 'Heui Jae Pahk Creative Space' was created and an opening ceremony was held.

The 'Heui Jae Pahk Creative Space', located the first floor of the New Engineering Building 301, College of Engineering and is divided into a reception space, a bar table-discussion space, a preparation space for preliminary start-ups and start-ups, a space for equipment operation and manufacturing, a space for engineering labs,line/offline lectures and meeting spaces, a relaxation-discussion space and a food and beverage space.

It will be equipped with 3D printing equipment, processing and measurement equipment, mechatronics laboratory equipment, mechanical engineering laboratory equipment, etc. to enable practical activities related to start-up preparation, start-up, design and manufacturing and research and development.

In particular, it will be operated as a space that can provide support for start-up ecosystems such as technology start-up mentoring by technology start-up professionals like Professor Heui Jae Pahk, financial counseling and investment support through Seoul National University technology owners, global marketing and investment support through POSCO and POSCO International

In addition, this space will be linked to the space for the Seoul National University Institute of Advanced Machines and the SNU Entrepreneurship Support Center, and is also planned to be linked to the Gwanak S Valley that SNU is preparing with Gwanak-gu Office and the Seoul Office of Education.

“The creation of this creative space at the Seoul National University College of Engineering is quite overwhelming. I believe that the spirit of the century that penetrates the times is the spirit of global entrepreneurship. I applaud the younger students who understand and implement the spirit of global entrepreneurship with creativity, passion and challenge,” said Professor Heui Jae Pahk.
