Ph.D. student Soo-Ho Jo of the SNU Laboratory for System Health and Risk Management (Advisor: Prof. Byeng Dong Youn) received Best Paper Award at the 2019 Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers CAE & Applied Mechanics Division Spring Conference. The event was held at Phoenix Jeju from April 18th to 20th, 2019.

The title of the paper is “Anisotropic Elastic Metamaterial-based Elastic Wave Collimation Using Isofrequency Contour Analysis.” It examines how, if metamaterials satisfy the proposed material properties conditions, an isofrequency contour of a rectangular or a perpendicular or a parallel shape appears. Furthermore, by designing non-resonant anisotropic elastic metamaterials, it proposes a broadband elastic wave collimation technology, adjoining low frequency band corresponding to rectangular isofrequency and high frequency band corresponding to parallel isofrequency.
