'Bravo K-SCIENTIST' highlights the life and research of Korean scientists.

The 31^st scientist to be featured is Professor Haecheon Choi.

As Jane Austen said, “One cannot fixe's eyes the commonest natural production without finding food for a rambling fancy.” Prof. Choi is a fluid mechanician who examines the mystery of the natural world, seeking answers in the hidden principles.

He claims that engineering is a field of study that connects land and sky. In order to overcome the limits of technology, he focused his attention nature. Prof. Choi visits different sites to find inspiration for his research.

His research, inspired by humpback whales, received a lot of attention from the academia both in Korea and internationally. The air conditioning axial fan designed after the pectoral fins of a humpback whale can reduce both noise and energy consumption.

There are about 2 million species of animals and plants Earth. Prof. Choi has studied the shell of a sea turtle, scales of a sailfish, the skin of a bull-head shark, daffodil stems, lotus flower leaves, and the tail of a flying fish in order to examine the unique structures of animals and plants that have adapted to the environment through years of evolution.

Prof. Choi claims that even a failed research can be valuable. He tells the story of asking questions and seeking answers from nature in the video.
