Globalization is the Answer to the 4th Industrial Revolution
The development of Information Technology has generated endless amounts of data on the web; companies such as Facebook, Google, Amazon are showing exponential growth with this data. Data-based Internet industry has grown to be over 12,000 times bigger than it first started in early 2000’s. Recently, the development of IoT technology has led to industry digitalization, producing massive amounts of industry data. This is very similar to how Internet-based industry growth happened all those years ago. Indeed, what can we do with this industrial data?
Using the data from manufacturing line, we make improvements in productivity, quality, and availability; from power plants, in efficiency and capacity; from self-driving cars, in driving safety and convenience.
The key technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution using such data is ‘machine intelligence solution.’ OnePredict Inc. is rising in the global market with its unmatched technology in this ‘machine intelligence solution’ area. The venture company (CEO: Prof. Byeng Dong Youn) was founded in 2016, seeking to utilize the ‘industrial AI’ technology developed by Korean researchers including SNU Dept. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering professors and alumni. They are expanding business with international companies such as ABB, Schaeffler, and Honeywell. Why is OnePredict attracting global attention? The reasons are as below.
First, they have the basic technology needed for ‘machine intelligence solution,’ as 9-time winner of global competitions on industrial data analysis. They received 1st and 2nd place at the industrial data analysis competition hosted by PHM Society in US, where over 130 teams participated, proving their technology is top-tier in the world.
Second, their ‘machine intelligence solution’ has been tested and improved by cooperating with Korean transnational companies such as SK, LG, Hyundai Motors, and POSCO.
Third, they successfully launched global projects and technology licensing contracts with global companies such as ABB and Schaeffler, demonstrating their potential.
As a result, they are providing predictive maintenance solutions, not only to smart factories in Ansan, Korea, but also to Germany’s DFKI and Switzerland’s SSF smart factories. This is the first time for a Korean SME to do so. The Korean government’s will and efforts to commercialize smart factories is showing to be fruitful, ‘machine intelligence solution’ being one of the key aspects receiving high expectations. Prof. Youn advised that “our manufacturing industry and technology are already at a global level. In order for Korean companies to continue growing in globalized competition in the era of 4th Industrial Revolution, companies need a global mind and the government needs to implement policies to support SMEs.”
