PhD student Hyunbum Park from Professor Maenghyo Cho’s lab received Best Oral Presentation Award at the 5^th International Conference of Nanomechanics and Nanocomposites (ICNN 5), held in Fukuoka, Japan from Aug 22 to 25, for his research titled “Prediction of quasi-static yield stress of spoxy polymers using temperature accelerated molecular dynamics simulations.”

The research presented a methodology to overcome the temporal limitations of computer simulations in molecular dynamics, utilizing temperature acceleration technique. Using this methodology, it was also successful in measuring the quasi-static yield stress of high molecular materials. The research was recognized as significant for predicting the yield stress of materials according to their strain rate by producing molecular-level analyses, without any testing or synthesizing of high-molecular materials necessary. This methodology is expected to be applied to a variety of high-molecular materials and to dramatically reduce the costs of testing.
