Dr. Yongdae Shin Newly Appointed as Assistant Professor
Prof. Yongdae Shin received his Bachelor’s degree at SNU’s Dept. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 2007, and completed Master’s and PhD at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2009 and 2015 respectively. He went on to work as a postdoctoral researcher at Princeton University until January 2018. He has been appointed as Assistant Professor at SNU’s Dept. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering since March 2018.

Specializing in cell mechanics and biophysics, Prof. Shin has conducted research on the precision measurement and analysis of biomolecular robots in nature at single-molecule levels and developed optical measuring equipment necessary for the research. Recently he has developed a technology for optical control of phase transition, a newly emerging paradigm in internal structuralization mechanism of cells, and studied kinetic interactions between intracellular structures. His research plans to focus on cell and tissue movement based on machine dynamics, and medical cell engineering and single-cell profiling for the development of new pharmaceuticals, ultimately aiming for the design and production of biosystems that can perform desired functions.
