“Create, not just predict, the future”
Professor Kun Woo Lee (63) of Seoul National University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, past Dean of College of Engineering, is a globally renowned scholar who, in 2004, became the first Asian editor-in-chief of ‘CAD Journal,’ an international academic journal in computer-aided design (CAD). In addition to his contributions to academia, Professor Lee has created two start-ups, as well as establishing Korea’s first engineering MBA program, Graduate School of Engineering Practice at SNU, promoting industry-university collaboration. He participated as a speaker at the Youth Policy Communication Forum, organized by Yonhap News and sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. What he lectured about the necessary qualities for people to have in the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution was a helpful guideline for everyone in the field. “New technologies like artificial intelligence and big data are in the spotlight right now, but we shouldn’t overlook research and development of traditional fields such as shipbuilding and semiconductor industry.” It was also said that the 3D scanner system developed by Professor Lee is widely used by wig businesses. As a firm believer in practical-oriented education, his message to the Youth Forum was that we must create the future and not just stop at predicting it.
