Seoul National University, College of Engineering (President Char Kookheon) announced the names of four students on the 21st for the 2nd Next Generation Engineering Leader Awards by The National Academy of Engineering of Korea.
The National Academy of Engineering of Korea selected 34 students from Korean engineering universities, recommended by members of the Engineering Academy and professors with three entrants, each divided into "entrepreneurship field" and "leadership field". The field of entrepreneurship was judged based on whether it contributed to social development through the founding of technology and inventive invention, and whether leadership field expanded the bottom of engineering technology and contributed to social change.
In the field of leadership, Kim Ji-ye, a researcher (Ph.D.) at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, was honored at the 2nd Next Generation Engineering Leader Award. Kim has been acknowledged for contributing to the improvement of the environment in developing countries by developing and distributing electrochemical drinking water disinfection equipment, non-motorized water purification technology, and modular devices for mineral wastewater treatment with appropriate technologies considering the regional environment and characteristics of developing countries. For this, she was selected as the Grand Prize winner.
Kim has contributed to improving the drinking water environment in Cambodia and Myanmar, starting with the Philippines in 2013, and has established SEEDs (Social Even-handed Engineers and Designers) teams in earnest.
In the Excellence Prize, Ham Seung-woo of the Department of Construction and Environmental Engineering was selected in the field of leadership as a recipient for various mentoring activities for the spread of engineering culture and engineering education. In the field of entrepreneurship, Lee Seung-jae (representative of bucket place of interior information sharing platform) and Park Seung-hwan (representative of tag solution developing transparent LED display product) won the excellent prize.
Winners of the Grand Prize and Excellence Prize will receive awards of 10 million won and 5 million won, respectively. The awards ceremony will be held at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul on the 19th of next month.
The Next-Generation Engineering Leader Award is an award to encourage creative and challenging engineering students to become active engineers in solving social problems. Chairman Kwon Oh-joon of the Korea Engineering Academy (POSCO President) was first enacted last year by appearing in the book.
