- First affordable Science and Technology Base Center from South Korea

Seoul National University College of Engineering (Dean, Kun Woo Lee) will hold the first appropriate science and technology center in Arusha, Tanzania, on August 10 (local time) as the task of the Center for Scientific and Technological Research at the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Korea Research Foundation.

The establishment of the Center for Science and Technology in Tanzania is the fourth most important center for Cambodia, Laos and Nepal. It is the first technology center to enter Africa continent for the first time in Korea.

 

This is a project to help sustainable development of developing countries through the necessary scientific and technological support beyond one-time material aid as part of Korea's Official Development Assistance (ODA).

Tanzania is located in the eastern part of the African continent and is rich in resources such as gold coffee and is politically stable (2013 KIEP). The Nelson Mandela Institute of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) is a leading science and technology university founded by the World Bank under the direction of Nelson Mandela.

Professor Sung-hoon Ahn of Seoul National University participates in the project as chairperson of Seoul National University of Technology, College of Agriculture, University of Social Sciences, Global Social Contribution Team, and 26 organizations including domestic organizations such as Hanyang University, Gyeongsang University, Woosong University and Handong University and local NGOs such as e3empower and various companies.

 

The project will focus on new and renewable energy, agriculture and agricultural products distribution, vaccine and health, entrepreneurship and ICT education for four years from 2017 to 2020. In addition, He will serve as head of the center and will be sent to Arusha, Tanzania for four years.

 

Through the Energy and Sustainable International Conference (ICES 2017), participants from Africa, the United States, Europe, and Korea will be exchanged through academic exchanges. In addition, in January next year, the SMART (Startup Mission on Art / Design, Responsibility, and Technology) International Initiative Competition will be hosted by the Center for Science and Technology Technology to establish appropriate technological entrepreneurship and international cooperation. Students will be leading together for this event.
