Professor Kyung-Su Yi of Seoul National University and Hyundai Motor Research Team, Awarded the Best Paper Award by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in 2017<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Professor Kyung-Su Yi from the college of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Dean, Kun Woo Lee) at the Seoul National University (SNU) has embarked on a joint research with the Hyundai motor team regarding the autonomous driving safety control technology. On the 3^rd of April, SNU's Integrated Vehicle Safety Control Laboratory proudly acknowledged Professor Kyung-Su Yi's achievement for being awarded the prestigious Best Paper Award by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in 2017. The result of this research which was conducted hand in hand with the industrial sector has been recognized on an international level. 

The ceremony will be held at the SAE 2017 World Congress on the 4^th of April in Detroit, Michigan, USA. 

The research paper titled “Automated Driving Control in Safe Driving Envelope Based on Probabilistic Prediction of Surrounding Vehicle Behaviors” has been recognized as the most significant research presented in the past year within the field of automobile electronics. It was hence awarded the Best Paper Award, which is also known as the Vincent Bendix Automotive Electronics Engineering Award. 

Last May, Professor Kyung-Su Yi, who led the research, had succeeded in testing the autonomous vehicle on an actual highway. As of current, the autonomous driving safety control technology is being applied to electric vehicles so as to promote a safer driving environment in public roads. Professor Yi has mentioned his plans to, "pursue research based on electronic automobiles enhanced with automotive technology to tackle future automobile, transportation and environmental problems.  
 

On the other hand, SNU's Vehicle Integrated Safety Control Laboratory will be cooperating with Seoul National University-KAIST-Ajou University on vehicle driving safety technology and autonomous driving technology. This will be proceeded in the HMC research center supported by Hyundai Motor. The team will be focusing on the development of autonomous navigation technology on public roads in the city as well as the research and development of the core cognitive-judgment-control system required to implement the technology until 2020.
