SNU System Health & Risk Management Lab
The 4th industrial revolution is expected to bring innovations and add value to the industrial ecosystem through improved productivity and advancement based on IoT (Internet of Things), AI, Cloud tech, etc. The SNU Mechanical And Aerospace Engineering System Health and Risk Management Lab (Under Professor Byeng Dong youn) is currently developing equipment prognostics and health management technology through data obtained from industrial plants, a zero-malfunction, zero-fault, zero waste oriented technology. Professor Youns lab has already made their mark as a global leader in the PHM industry through 3 international awards from global data challenge competitions. The lab has created multiple successful cases of predicting and managing the health of core facilities such as large thermal power plants, steam turbines, wind turbines, industrial robots, large batteries, transformers, generators and others.
The prognostics and health tech of equipment is a start-up managed by the MSIP and has been declared the very best technology within the ‘Research corporation funded industry-academia partnership research business’. In 2016 October, ‘OnePredict’ was established and released ‘I-Shield’, korea’s first PHM program and a core item in the industrialization of technology. I-Shield is a program friendly to non-professionals as well, boasting an accurate prediction of system health and prognostics and even has a intuitive workflow and visualization of diagnostics to tackle system health problems. A program comparable to Predix, another global predictive diagnostics software by General Electric. OnePredict offers low cost, high efficiency management and quality maintenance service thourgh I-Shield.
OnePredict aims to take a leap in as a strong SME through carrying out smart factory plans with the Global companies P and S along with developing predictive diagnostics systems for generators.
The making of another legend in the ‘SNU Engineering Professor Start-up Dream Team’, Professor Youn confirmed that “such academic and industrial progress will accelerate korea’s 4th industrial revolution and add tremendous value to the industries.” For this to happen, it is important to have a national fund to support basic research and other tech that will add value to the industries of korea.
The system health diagnostics technology OnePredict is currently developing for the generators of Company P can be utilized in international mid sized power plants. A regular and predictive maintenance can prevent excessive costs associated with unprecedented accidents. Industrial Equipment Diagnostics tech can be utilized in various industries such as aerospace, generators, oil refineries, gas, railways and others and make regular maintenance much easier. It is predicted that such predictive maintenance can save up to 12 trillion won per year socially.
