Ph.D. Student Joshua Minwoo Kweun (guidance Professor Young Young Kim) claimed the grand prize at the 23rd Samsung Human Tech Research Paper Awards at the Samsung Electronics Seo Cho building last 7th Feb with the paper titled “Discovery, Theorization, and Realization of New Transmodal Fabry-Perot Resonance”.

This award winning paper discovered and experimentally proved a new resonance phenomenon that can be described by the interaction of both longitudinal and transverse modes. Previously, the transmission resonance (Fabry- Periot) in heterogeneous materials could only describe a single type of wave mode. We can expect this newly discovered technology to be used in various fields ranging from High-Efficiency, shear mode Ultrasonic Non destructive testing to new concepts of interception and isolation of soundwaves.
