Obtaining his Bachelors and Masters from SNU Dep. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 2000 and 2002 respectively, he worked as an academic instructor and full-time lecturer in the Korean air force academy from 2002 to 2005, after which he went to MIT to earn his doctorate in mechanical engineering. After obtaining his Ph.D., he worked in the MIT Biotechnology as a post-doc researcher and has been employed as an assistant professor to SNU Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering on March 2013.
His research field is design and structural analysis through numerical analysis such as the finite element method. Recently, he has been focusing on developing efficient computer simulation techniques for the analysis and design of bio-nano-structures based on biomolecules such especially proteins and DNA. Additionally, he participated in the development of a dynamic online database for high molecular weight proteins and the development of DNA origami structure prediction based on the Web. He has big interests in academics and research material development that anyone can obtain through the internet. His future plans are the development and application of new-age multi-scale, multi-physics, multi-fidelity simulation methodologies which can efficiently model complex mechanical movement in various physical environments.
