Professor Byeng Dong Youn’s Team Claims the IEEE Reliablility Society’s Best Paper Award in Machine Lifespan Diagnosis Research
SNU Dep. of Mechanical and Aerospace Professor Byeng Dong Youn’s research team which recently developed technology that can prevent accidents such as the factory explosion incident in Yeosu and western locations and the CNG Bus explosion incident in 2010 claimed the best paper award given by one of the world’s most prestigious societies.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
SNU revealed on the 19th that Professor Youn’s team claimed the best paper award in the PHM (Prognostics and Health Management) Category by the global IEEE reliability society with the research that diagnosed the lifespan of machines through suspension data.
The fault prediction tech the paper dealt with compared data changes within the system with earlier signals to predict the lifespan of the machine. Usually, for predictions, a pre-recorded health background data (Damage Data) is required, however, professor Youn’s team managed to successfully predict the possible faults despite the limited health background data.
Professor Youn said “Through this research, we can reduce costs associated with gathering data, especially in large and expensive systems such as generation plants where obtaining background data is impossible. Predicting their lifespans will soon be possible as well.”
