With the theme "Green and sustainable Appropriate Technology Model using the Traditional Hot-stone System (Subtitle: Optimal design, manufacturing and application of the traditional hot-stone system for Nepal’s high-altitude locals)", the NSVP showed the usage of “appropriate Korean technology” through the traditional Korean hot-stone system, developing over 10 prototypes within the nation. The presentation of data of their hot-stone system which they installed in over 50 locations in Nepal through a visit won them the recognition of the greatest engineering design ability within the competition and a brand new paradigm of "Appropriate Korean Technology".

The competition, launched in 2009, held its 5th even this year with the aim to provide aid to foreign neighbors with the appropriate technology developed by college students through their products and show the appeal of scientific technology. The competition this year was organized together by Hanyang Univ., Hanbat Univ. , Handong Univ. and STI with support from MOLIT, ME and the MOE.

This year, there was a widening of the scope of the engineering design category, showing various appropriate technology products ranging from the social enterprise sector to education, medical and even the convergence sector.

The 5th competition shows new and unique products from 16 teams of each of the 4 categories (Foreign Farming, transportation and shelter category, Foreign Water quality, health and safety category, Foreign Energy, landscape development and convergence category, Domestic underprivileged and special category) with a total of 64 teams from 22 colleges and 3 high schools from all over the country.
