Global Solar Volunteer Corps ?Installs Generators and Provides Medical and Science Camp for the Rural Thingan and Ghadi Village

Our faculty뭩 Golbal Solar Volunteer Corps installed 17KW small hydro generators and provided medical and science camps for the residents of the Ghadi and Thingan Villages of Nepal뭩 Makwanpur District.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The volunteer corps provided generators for electricity and power transmission to schools and 25 furniture, along with indoor wiring, installation of LEDs, Science Camps for the young and wall drawings for the 500 residents of the Ghadi Village. The group also installed vaccine agencies in the Thingan village, were they installed the world뭩 first off grid small hyro-wind-solar generators and power transmission facilities.

Along with 4 other Nepali Doctors and the IVI, the team provided vaccine camps and medical camps for the 448 residents of the Thingan village and conducted research for the improvement of vaccine cold chains through satellites. The team also demonstrated how to increase crop yield through the use of agriculture processing using electricity and plans to continue further research in the future.

Funds and aid were provided by the ODA business, SNU IGSR, Innovation Center for Engineering Education, SNU Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, The Christian Council and Hanyang University.

Participants in this Nepal visit include Professor Sung-Hoon Ahn (Head) of the Global Solar Volunteer Corps, Research Professor Won Sik Chu, Dr. Kyung Tae Lee (BK21 Plus Post-Doc, President), Binayak Bhandari (post-Doc, Vice President), Pratibha Bhandari (Post-Doc, Nursing Doctorate), Ph.D. Student Kang In Lee, Masters Student Shiva Raj Poudel (Innovative Design and Integrated Manufacturing Lab), Haeun Kang, Yeon Kuk Sung, Jae Kyung Lee, Yuan Peng Fei (Harbin Engineering Exchange Student) and other undergrads, Professor Bhattachan Anuj, Hanyang University Volunteer Group, totaling 28 participants. The locals participated in the building of the small hydro generator for 3 months under the guidance of Professor Binayak Bhandari.
